Just outta plain curiousity..........

My friend has a D-16 dual v-tec solenoids head w/ stage 2 cam............

what if I here to swap my d17a2 head for d16 with dual vtec solenoids and stage 2 cam..... any

thoughts on how this would turn out? and if its possible to do this? ( I know its illegal, but can it be done?)

do it the other way around...use a d17 block with a y8 head and you'll see some gains...doesnt sound really worth it unless you're going to be able to do the stuff for free... and yes it's been done before.

i did this once, a d16w9 head with a d17a2 block

unfortunately the d16w9 isnt available in the US, only in pakistan and the phillipines

had some nice torque, but the game ended when i threw on a d17 head

no, its not needed to change the ignition system, ECU, etc...

What is the difference between a D16w9 cylinder head and a D17a2 cylinder head? I am assuming the D16w9 uses the same head bolt pattern and ignition system, and would have come from a d17 type block that is built 100ccs smaller for some reason. Non of the other D16 heads or ignition systems, camshafts, or crank trigger sytems are really compatible with the later D17 ECUs. Just wondering why someone would go through the trouble of swapping a head like this onto a US based engine. I believe the D17a2 was rated at 127 hp and the D16w9 at 130 hp if my sources are correct.
D16W9 is the 7th gen engine for someone else. It should have the same type of block as the US D17's. Just the D17's 127 ponnies are on the trunk, that's why they are slow, they are very very fat...:fu:

@bryce, not sure, i recall it all bolting up, just required the d17 gasket, the rest remained the same. Didnt do it myself like usually people would do in the states, it all happend at a professional workshop.

@02fpcivic, yep ur right, same blueprint, all we need to do is to drop in is a d17 head and block, and becomes a 1.7 liter. Basically everything is the same expcept less power and torque in the 16.
