I nearly bought a 1969 mustang in the early 90's but "wisely" decided the $600 1978 VW bus was a better idea, because gas and family and the need for a van for work. It was pretty much the same model bus seen blasting up the highway in Days of Thunder in the hands of the hot headed racer played by a pre couch jumping Tom Cruise. And like any crackerbox 2L flat 4, it eventually ate a valve on number 3 and then sat for decades because fixing it was uneconomical. Funny how these things work out. It got me through college though.
