Default Spring Compressor

How do i know what spring compressors to use? Just bought some new springs and would rather be safe than sorry. But while i say that, are they really necessary for our cars? I read about all these people not using them so is it really not necessary?

Would like to know before i pay 30-50 for some compressors i won't use.

You can rent them for free at autozone or auto parts store with a credit card deposit. Use it & return it and get your deposit back. No need to buy one ever & it saves you tons of headache if you don't have a lot of tools.

It's pretty simple, it will be a piece of all thread rod with 2 "hooks" that grab the spring on top and bottom. Grab the 2nd or 3rd coil from the top an bottom and tighten them up. You'll have 2 of them on each spring. The kit comes with both of them.

How far do you have to compress the spring when putting it back on the shock?

Pretty sure that is the wrong one. You need something like this.
MacPherson Strut Spring Compressor

So it grabs the spring on the outside. place one on each side and crank drown on one a little then the other. The one you have is for springs that go in between the control arm.
