Default Need help with mods!

Hey there, just joined the site yesterday. Seen a lot of helpful info/tips about mods and maintenance on your guys' civics. But I'm slightly confused for the following reasons:

1. I see a lot of posts about modding the DX/LX models

2. Although a lot of you say modding these cars are pointless

3. A lot of you encourage to do engine swaps

Well I guess the main question I have is why do so many of you chose the LX/DX model rather than the Si model? Is it more worth it to get the lower model and to just do a swap?

Sorry if I sound really naive, just new to this.

To clarify, I'm looking to have about a 7 second 0-60 car. And i want this for the least amount of money to possibly spend. (i will be doing most of the work myself) But it will be my daily driver. I am going to buy a skyline/supra/rx-7/300zx/ for in depth tuning.

Thanks for the help!

Most people go for DX/LX because they are cheaper and better MPG than EX. When you say SI, are you referring to the EP3 or Canadian model SI (EX in US)? You want a 7 second Civic, be ready to kswap or turbo it. I would save the $$$ for the project car you plan on getting.

^^ agreed do mods that complement whats already there i.e. good handling. The si for that year was not very good I had one. When you start a "build" expect to spend 2-3 times more than you thought because of all the little shit you never account for. Not too mention the other shit that you will break.

I mean the canadian model Si, 165hp I believe. And money isn't a huge issue for me, so I would rather have a nice, decently fast civic for my daily before I get my project car.

So if doing a swap would be what I'd have to look to do, should I just buy the cheapest 03-05 civic (preference) I can, and just do a k swap?

There's a lot of basic civics (117hp, pw, pl, ac) for $3000-4000 around my area.

And there is a k24a2 engine for sale right now as well. Should I look into just buy a cheap civic and do the swap?

Also, not that familiar with the engine and measurements so what are some of the things I should ask/look for? Also what else would I need to complete the swap?

Here's the link for it: how does it look/sound?

The cost depends on what exact model you have, see the build treads that other members did to get an idea.

Okay, so the Si model in Canada is nothing great, so I'll be getting a LX/DX model. Bone stock.iSo would getting this engine for a swap be a good idea before it's gone? http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...AdIdZ440970519

Is there any other parts I would need to complete a swap?

I'm really not all that interested in intake, headers etc. until I get a decent engine in there.

wrong...
125 from factory (with luck), way less at wheels...
7 sec 1-60?!?

yer better off looking for an older model, before 01, they lighter and better suspension...
I don't have an earlier model because i bought this one. did not get one last time because i could not find a good car. if i had known better at the time, i would have gotten an earlier model, when there were more of them in stock form (not badly modded)...

The advantage is that the 7th gen is not too sought after as the earlier models by thieves (which tells a lot about the potential in stock form...)

I'm not a huge fan of the body style in the 6th gen civics, or older. And I looked on every site there is within 1000km's that sells used vehicles, and there were no civics that weren't heavily modded or had considerable body damage.

I could get a pretty clean LX/DX 03-05 model with 150k km's for $3-4k though. And then there's also a k24a2 engine for sale for 1500obo. I think I might go that route.

But I'm just learning about all of this, I can do the easy stuff but I want to be able to do what you guys do. So I'm trying to see your guys' opinions on the best way to go about that.
