Acura is taking an all-electric NSX-inspired race car to Pikes Peak this year to try and be the fastest up the mountain.

Acura has revealed one of the cars it is bringing to the 2016 Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, which takes place on June 25-26. This NSX-inspird EV Concept, as Acura calls it, uses the brand’s four-motor Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. It’s the same setup that won the Challenge Exhibition class at last year’s race, though in 2015 it was housed in the body of a CR-Z.

Tetsuya Yamano will be piloting the car, which Acura claims is the world’s first race car with the ability to have four-wheel independent torque allocation. This year’s car also has three times the total system output of last year’s SH-AWD prototype, which should help it get back to the podium.

'We’ve been tuning the car for several weeks at Pikes and have advanced its performance significantly,' said Tetsuya Yamano. 'We’re honored to be running at Pikes in this historical, anniversary year – an event respected by racing fans all over the world.'

Acura will also campaign two modified versions of the stock NSX in the Time Attack 1 and 2 classes.
