Default Strut mount - can it come apart?

Hey everyone,
I recently a put coilover sleeves on my stock struts and top hats. I'm trying to go for maximum low but the shock hits the top hat (fully compressed) before I even max out my coilovers. I noticed that the stock hat has this huge ring for the bearing. Can this be knocked off?

Also, any ideas on doing a top mounted top hat similar to OBK's?

That doesn't look right, you have no suspension travel like that. What you need is a shorter strut, that's if your frame isn't on the ground already. lol

What I was thinking about doing for my car is taking the oem top hat and cutting it then have someone extend it by an in and a half or so so I could get more shock travel so I could go for more lows. But everything goes right I should be getting some hotchkis camber plates in feb and plan on doing a setup similar to obk.

So you could extend it for my shock travel n

there is no travel, lol. i didnt actually run it like that. the problem is that im not laying frame or even slammed as i want to be, even with the strut fully compressed.

its either shorter struts, raised strut mounts, or smaller wheels.

im on the lookout for the hotchkis plates. if you do go through with your plan, could you let me know how it works out? that's what i was originally going to do, to bring back some shock travel.

ditch oem tophats. so much wasted space(travel) since they mount under neath the tower

you cant "extend" oem tophats like the other civics can for MANY reasons.

with what you posted, it should work. you can only go so low until the car sits on the struts/bumptop. then you go lower =]
