i usally let the engine warm up before using the heater. but recently ive noticed even with the engine warmed up around 170F the heater will work good then get cold. if i turn the heater off for a couple of min. it will be hot again then get cold. its done it at 185F too. after awhile the heater will start working well without issue. is my heater core clogged or bad thermostat or waterpump?

could be a bad waterpump, mine was bad cause intermittent poor flow and heat was cutting in a out at operating temp

^ yes check your coolant level first, but coolant system is suppose to be a sealed/pressurized system except for the overflow bottle, there for your level shouldnt get really low unless you have a leak. i.e radiator, waterpump, hoses, etc..

Honda has a bulletin out on this. Its air getting trapped in the heater core. Try raising the front of the car while filling with coolant to get the air out. Mine was just doing this.

When I had about 100k miles it was winter time, and my heater would not get hot unless the car was moving. I chose to ignore it. My belief is that it was something as simple as a stuck thermostat.
By 120k miles my headgasket had blown, probably from my ignorance during that winter. Get it checked out and fixed so you don't cause some major problems. |

coolant level is good. im going to be replacing the timing belt so im going to throw in a new water pump while im in there. ill probably get a new thermostat too sense there like 10 bucks. im going to change the coolant as well.
