Bulbs are located behind the trunklid. You have to pull out a little harness type thing and just swap the 168 bulbs out. They should be relatively easy to find, just find the 2 wire looms that lead to two spaces directly behind the license plate.

Oh, and I believe LEDs need to be put in a certain way so if they don't work the first time just flip them around and try again.

What in the world are you talking about? It's the same as a regular bulb....

any decent bulb replacement LED will have a diode circuit that will manage proper current flow, they should work in either orientation

You can also use 194 leds I had them in my em2 and ep3. I have a buddy who sells them and his are polarity specific.

Mine didn't work like that, first time one of them didn't light up.. I flipped it around and it worked fine. And yes I double checked if it was in all the way. Weird..

LED = Light Emitting Diode

Therefore, there is no need for a "protective diode"...

Diodes only allow current to run one direction, so if the thing is backwards, they will not work (but will not be damaged)

You can create a bridge diode setup that would allow it to work with reverse polarity... but I haven't seen this done with cheap car LED packages (a few pennies extra, some more space, and a bit of wasted voltage).

I did this the other day, found some at Crappy Tire.

I bought the blue ones first, but I found them to be a bit ricey, and maybe a bit of unwanted heat from the po. So i bought white ones.

I ended up putting one of the blue lights in my trunk (same sized bulb) and it looks pretty gnar.

one of the easiest mod i did and it makes the rear look a lot better. I have white ones and it looks 100% better than the stockers.

I bought some blue leds and they where just plug and play, but if it did not turn on then you turn it 180 degrees and bam your done took me only 5 mins to switch them!

One suggestion I might add is to get the waterproof LED strip lighting in white. It lights up the license plate much more evenly than putting in two directional LED lights in place of incandescent bulbs that light evenly.

just my 2¢

has anyone installed an led strip in their trunk? is it just a quick splice into the trunk light?

Yes.

Theres a plug next to the trunk light.

Behind that plug are the wires you can splice into.

Your best bet will be ebay and you can get decent ones for $10 and they will last a long time. Ive had mine since last april and its still bright
